Mortgage Stress Test Calculator: Test Your Mortgage-Readiness

What the Mortgage Stress Test Calculator Does

The Mortgage Stress Test Calculator is a free mobile app designed for homebuyers to assess their mortgage readiness under more challenging conditions. Commonly referred to as a “mortgage stress test calculator Canada” or “Canadian mortgage stress test tool,” this app is available for both iOS and Android devices – courtesy of YVR Real Estate Group – via the Download Canadian Mortgage App link.
With this tool, you can:

  • Analyze how the stress test may reduce your borrowing power compared to traditional qualification.
  • Compare different mortgage scenarios (interest rates, amortization lengths, income levels) to gauge your real home-buying capacity.

Why Use a Mortgage Stress Test Calculator?

In Canada, the regulator, the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI), requires most federally regulated lenders to apply a mortgage stress test under Guideline B-20 – also known as the Minimum Qualifying Rate (MQR). This rate is set as the greater of your contract rate plus 2% or a floor rate (currently 5.25%). osfi-bsif.gc.ca

Using a calculator specifically built for the stress test gives you clarity – so you know up front:

  • If you meet debt-service ratio thresholds (GDS & TDS) with the stress-tested rate. Scotiabank – What is the Canadian Mortgage Stress Test
